Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups white flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ¾ cup cocoa, sifted
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground cloves
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 orange, zest and juice
  • 100g dark chocolate, grated

Directions

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a baking pan.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sifted white flour, white sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, freshly squeezed orange juice, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and the zest and juice of one orange.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.

Fold in the grated dark chocolate.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for approximately 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the chocolate-orange glaze, combine ½ cup of freshly squeezed orange juice and 100g of dark chocolate in a saucepan. Stir over low heat until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.

Once the cake has cooled, drizzle the chocolate-orange glaze over the top.

Garnish with additional orange zest, if desired.

Slice and serve the delicious Orange Dark Chocolate Cake.
