Ingredients

  • 1 lb cooked chicken, cubed
  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup gouda, shredded
  • 1 cup cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp table salt

Directions

Preheat your oven to 375°F.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter.

Stir in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour to the melted butter. Cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes to create a roux.

Slowly add 1 cup of cream and 1/2 cup of chicken stock to the roux while continually stirring to prevent lumps.

Add 1/2 teaspoon each of garlic powder and ground black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of dried parsley, 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon of table salt to the sauce. Stir well to combine.

Continue cooking the sauce on medium heat, stirring frequently, until it thickens, approximately 5 minutes.

Reduce the heat to low and stir in 1 cup of shredded gouda until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth. Remove from heat.

In a separate pan, blanch the asparagus pieces in boiling water for 2 minutes, then drain.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed cooked chicken, blanched asparagus, and the creamy gouda sauce. Mix until the chicken and asparagus are well coated.

Transfer the chicken and asparagus mixture to a baking dish.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the sauce is bubbling.

Serve the Creamy Gouda Chicken with Asparagus hot. Enjoy your delicious and comforting dinner!

Really nice mix of flavours, cheese and asparagus!

Recipe worked out really well. I used roasted chicken breasts and a rather bland gouda. I suspect with a better gouda this would have been even better!
